6 Home Remedies for When You're Sick

Updated: Nov 2, 2022

Well, it’s that time of year where so many of us are feeling under the weather. There are bugs and germs being passed around at school and at work, and we want to do what we can to protect ourselves and keep our body’s immune system strong. And if that fails, we at least want a solution to heal what ails us. So if you’re looking for some tips & tricks to fight off the pesky viruses going around, or you’ve already caught one and are searching for healing, read on, friend!

  1. Get your Vitamin C in! You likely know that Vitamin C is an important nutrient that helps boost our immune system and restore antioxidants. You can boost your intake by taking a supplement or eating/drinking Vitamin C containing foods & beverages. While oranges and orange juice probably come to mind - cantaloupe, grapefruit, and even broccoli are also at the top of the list!

  2. Get your rest! Getting adequate sleep allows our bodies to create antibodies and to form a strong immune system. Giving yourself some extra downtime to rest when you feel something coming on is likely to help with a quicker recovery if not fight it off.

  3. Drink your fluids! I’m sure your mother’s told you this, but staying hydrated is crucial! Drink your water, tea, broth, all the above! If you wanna kill two birds with one stone, you can drink tea with ginger and turmeric which also help increase antioxidants, reduce inflammation, and more.

  4. Take your CBD! Cannabinoids such as cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabigerol (CBG) work with your body’s natural endocannabinoid system to help bring your body back to homeostasis. You can take Nuvita’s CBG infused CBD formula to especially help with boosting immunity and also relieving those seasonal allergies. 5. Use essential oils! I love to use these in a diffuser but you can also use them topically or in the bath/shower. Rosemary, eucalyptus, and tea tree oil is one of my go-to homemade blends. I use eucalyptus to help relieve congestion, rosemary to help support the immune system, and tea tree to help disinfect the air and fend off bacteria.

  6. Steam it up! You can take a hot shower or bath or use a steamer. You might even try combining this with #5 by adding eucalyptus oil to your bathwater or by putting a few drops on a wet washcloth in the shower with you to help clear up your sinuses.

Please know that I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice by any means. These are simply some of the at-home remedies I turn to when I'm not feeling well or I want to give my body some support due to bugs going around. Let me know what your favorite home remedy is in the comments and stay healthy!

With love,

Haley
